Portaria, the square of the village in Pelio, Greece

Portaria (alt. 600 metres) is a lovely village overlooking Pagasiticos Gulf, surrounded by trees and flowers which are in abundance.

It is a real balcony, where you can admire the fascinating sea view and the other villages set lower down. Portaria has established itself as a favourite amongst Pelion visitors.

The village's delightful main square and the chapel of the Panagia of Portaria with 16th century frescoes are sure to make their impression.

In the country side, in Karavos district there are plenty of waterfalls, while the water spring is about a 10 m walk.

The Byzantine monastery of Prodromos is situated at the top of the village. It is worth saying that the cultural activities are organised and maintained in the area as the people in the village recontruct these customs every year. The most popular one that takes place every year is the traditional "pelioritikos" wedding.
